Akram El Sharkawy

Akram started his musical career by doing jazz covers. His first musical performances were at The Citadel Festival in 1997/ 98. He formed his first band "Steps" in 1999, and left later to form his latest band "Akram El Sharkawy Band". The music is Oriental & Contemporary Jazz, which comprises only originals and is distributed by Akram himself. They performed in famous venues like Cairo Opera House and the Culture Wheel.

Arabian Knightz (AK)

Four lead men of four of the biggest rap groups in Egypt-- Ghetto, Pharaoz, Meya Meya, and Mad skills Empire-- came together to form one strong group; Arabian Knightz. The group was formed in Egypt in December 2005, after performing in Egypt's 1st hip hop concert that gathered all the hip hop bands in Egypt.

Asfalt

Asfalt was formed in early 2005, then the first single came out in mid-2005. In late 2005, Mohamed El Deeb joined Asfalt. And till now the band is still maing a lot of changes and making progress. Asfalta's music and lyrics are 100% original. They stand out with their original mix of Arabic/ English Hip-Hop.
2007 Asfalt appeared on OTV (Sha3'al show).
2008 Asfalt appeared on MTV Arabia.
2008 Asfalt won the rap auditions with MTV Arabia.

Basheer

Mohammed Basheer was born in Cairo and raised in Aswan in the small town of Al Ramady, where his family's deep roots are. Engraved in his memory are the songs of ladies gathered in the house yard baking in front of the furnace, and the dancing of his cousins and friends in wedding parties. He became a part of that world in spite of his current residence in Cairo.

Blackbulletz

Blackbulletz is a full hip-hop elements crew. The crew includes beat boxers, rappers and breakers. It started from scratch; from street to schools, from schools to stages, from stages to universities. They are developing and growing, but their ambitions and motivation are still high. The crew was founded by five founders and grew up to 15 members, each one of them is on fire and always ready to rock the stage.

Black Theama

It all started when Amir, a Nubian actor and singer, met the Aswani Abdo, in a theatre rehearsal. Knowing that they both write lyrics and compose music that is highly influenced by their background, they instantly teamed up. Passionate as they are about their roots and music, they decided to form their own band, playing music and singing in a very unique and modern manner. After choosing 'Charisma' as their name, the band soon started rehearsing for their first live performance, which was part of the International Music Day Festival at the Cairo Opera House in 2002.

Brain Candy

Brain Candy, they were playing in different bands, Mohamed Tariq met Timmy and they talked about forming a kind of side project to what they were already doing, witch involved playing punk music.

It was only Timmy, drummer and Mohamed Tariq then Moe and Gamal joined them.

The music is more symphonic.

Cairokee

Cairokee, a name inspired from both the words Cairo and Karaoke which means singing along with Cairo. The band was seriously formed 2003, ever since the band has performed live in various places. The idea of playing music and performing live was a childhood dream for all members band.

The band performed in the following places: Cairo Jazz Club, Helnan Shepard, Grand Hyatt, Tahiti and regularly in Sakya Culture Wheel.

Chromatics

Chromatics consist of four young musicians, aiming at presenting their point of view through music. Their music is a mixture of genres from rock to oriental. The band started in December 2005 and participated in lots of concerts in famous cultural venues, such as Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the French cultural center. All of the band members performed individually in other bands throughout the past ten years.

DaVinci

Diversity is probably the best describing what DaVinCi is all about, with a fresh new line up with Jacques & Altay the band is ready to conquer the finals in the Dubai desert rock festival that is to be held in December 15th 2006 in the Dubai country club, DaVinCi will be the only band representing Egypt along with other bands from Saudi Arabia, Iran, India & Dubai.

DJ Feedo

Officially the number one R&B and hip-hop DJ in Egypt, Fadi Tawfik AKA DJ Feedo kick-started his career in 1997 at Cairo’s Club Exit.
Following appearances at other club nights in the city, Feedo’s fan base grew tremendously and eventually gained the attention of international DJs – as well as R&B and hip-hop fans outside of the region – earning him gigs alongside some of the biggest names in the business, including David Moreno and Trevor Nelson.

Eftekasat

Performing since 2000, these guys can only get bigger. One of the big names among musical bands, each music performance is an epic and unique fusion of Latin, oriental and contemporary jazz.

El Door el Awal

At the beginning of El Dor el Awal, there’s Ahmed Omar and Mohamed Samy jamming. They created a few tunes and they decided to make a band which plays music, original music, its own music. Omar gets his two friends Bob and Mizo who play with him in West el balad band, and Samy gets Naissam, the French Syrian girl that he mets playing with Fathi Salama, Nour Ashour, his friend from Alexandria, and Fady Badr, his old friendship.

Eskenderella

Eskenderella was formed in 2001 by a group of passionate Alexandrian musicians. Throughout their first year and half, they did a number of musical concerts in different cultural spots in Alexandria. The band stopped for a number of years, but came back in a new shape and more members. They also added more songs that are their own compositions and written by leadings poets like Fouad Hadad, Naguib Shehab El Deen and young poet Ahmed Hadad among others. They also present famous songs by Sayed Darwish, El Sheikh Emam and Ziad Rahbany.

Fathy Salama

Fathy Salama was born in Cairo, Egypt. He grew up listening to the family radio, which played the music of Uum Kulthum, Abdel El Wahab and Farid el Attrash. Later, he reached beyond the banks of the Nile to Jazz and to a huge variety of world traditional music. Learning the piano from the age of six was a good beginning and was followed by gigging in Cairo clubs from the age of thirteen. Soon, the kid of Shobra, Harlem of Cairo, made it to Europe and to New York to learn Jazz with such great artists as Sun Ra or Ossman Kareem.

Guemeza

One main idea led to the formation of Guemeza; the idea of beginning a mission to bring back an Egyptian character to contemporary Egyptian music. The band tries to represent an Egyptian spirit through their music, which they compose and put lyrics to by doing workshops in which they create their music. Guemeza is funded by the poet Nasser El Nubi. He founded the band upon publishing his first book 'Mirror of Water,' which pushed him to search for the "real" Egyptian song.

Idle Mind

Idle mind was formed in February 2003 by Youssef Altay (Drums), Mohamed Ibrahim (Vocals), and Karim Maghrabi (Guitars). Jacques Avakian (Bass) joined the band later in December of the same year. The main idea among the band members was to create music free of all genre and taste restrictions, stereotypes, and clichés.

Jaffa Phonix

In 2003 the brothers Faisal and Ali Abu Ghaben formed Jaffa Phonix as they
recorded their album (194 resolutions) which was a mixture of different music styles starting from electronic hip hop and ending with big beat, British pop and dance.

Kravin

The three year old band Kravin is a trying to bring back the true spirit of rock n' roll, grasping audiences with what has become known as lively and charismatic performances. The band is influenced by all the rock n' roll pioneers of the 60s and 70s, such as The Who and Led Zeppelin.

Limouzine

The idea of Limousine started two years ago with the aim of presenting a new approach to mixing western and eastern music. Limousine's music is a fusion between blues, funk, rock, Latin with oriental tunes. Limousine played many concerts at El Sawy Culture Wheel, which they consider their starting point.

Love & Peace

The idea of Love and Peace started in the late seventies, a time that saw a phase of political stability upon the 1973 October victory, Egypt's signing a peace agreement and the emergence of different forms of art and creativity.

"Love and Peace" was the brainchild of the Alexandrian Nabil El Bakly and his friend, the poet Ahmed Yousry. Together, they made a huge success with songs like "Alexandria Marya" and "Ozkoreeny" (Remember me).

Massar Egbari

The band members created that sarcastic name for the band since they felt that the society is trying to impose its power over people starting from their childhood till the day they die. According to the band, this social power wants to stereotype everything including the way we think and feel, leaving no space for creation and innovation.

Massive Scar Era (Mascara)

Mascara plays hardcore music with both aggressive and clean vocals, violin, flute, and keyboard. It's melodic metal music. The band's name is an expression of how violent the world is becoming, as according to the band, they find that the world as it is now is "a massive scar era." The abbreviation "Mascara" was then put to add a feminine touch to band's title (Ma ="massive", sca="scar," ra="era"). The current members knew each other before forming the band and were initially united by their passion for music and performing.

Mood Shift

Moodshift is an instrumental rock band, they play a large variety of rock music types including classic rock, hard rock, progressive rock, blues, funk, etc. which still confuses them to which type of music should they call themselves playing, they have their own originals adding their style & influences in a mission to spread a different approach in music which is “you don’t need to sing to send a message just feel the melody & figure it out”.

Nagham Masry | نغم مصرى

An accident meeting between Ousso and Sherbini that brought an immediate musical understanding led to the unique mixture of east and west that is known as Nagham Masry. Following a first prize award at their very first show at the citadel, they decided to get serious about their original songs and set lists, and soon were playing regularly at the Opera.

Naseer Shamma | نصير شمّة

Prominent Iraqi oud player Naseer Shamma says he plans a fundraising campaign next month that he hopes will raise millions of dollars to help Iraqi refugees in countries such as Syria and Jordan.
Shamma, who has lived in exile since 1993, told Reuters the campaign would feature Arab artists and public figures and would take place under the supervision of the Cairo-based Arab League.
It will include an advertising campaign calling on people to donate through bank accounts, and programmes will be shown on Arab television stations to raise awareness of the refugees' plight.

Ressala

Since the year 2000, this band's main challenge was to create a collection of songs that proves their capability to interact and cooperate as a band despite of their different music backgrounds and consequently music interests and tastes. These differences resulted in a special genre of songs and music; the vocals artistically perform songs with Egyptian lyrics accompanied by experimental and creative music.

Ruba Saqr | ربى صقر

Jordanian singer-songwriter Ruba Saqr's work has been recognised by winning the UNESCO Prize for Best Performance Bridging Traditional and Contemporary Traditions in 2007 and the Global Battle of the Bands in Jordan in 2005, which also led to a UK appearance at the Astoria.

Sahra

You might know them as "Propaganda", but for the past three years, Sahra has been basically representing the raï section of local Egyptian bands. Incredibly strongly, we might add.

Salalem

The band started over three years ago when Mohamed Ali, Osama Saad and Amr Gioushy decided to combine their musical talents together to make music that's different, catchy, fresh and meaningful. Through Arabic lyrics, Salalem is able to represent the youth of Egypt and many of their issues. Salalem strives to continuously progress and turn their musical ideas into songs that are highly anticipated by their fans.

The Arab Rap Family

The Family started back in 2002 with the two main members Mc Monadel and Dj Nadoo. They hooked up for the first time on an underground song called "Ana Arabee" (I'm Arab), and from there, the family started in the game of Arab Rap. They continued making music and rapping about life, where they're from and how they were brought up as two Egyptians, one raised in Egypt and the other in the States. They use rap to talk about their personal experiences and many political issues about Arabs and the political situation in the Arab world.

Inspired by Arabic classical music from Asmahan to Oum koultoum, the band presents a new type of Arabic music combined with powerfull dub and drum n bass thanks to talented guests, singers or musician and the experience of Francois Cunin and Zeid Hamdan on synth and programmation .

The Better Life

The Better Life is an Egyptian Christian music group. They started in 1978, the Better Life Kids in 1987, and the Better Life Juniors in 1998. The Better Life is based in Cairo, Egypt, yet they travel all over the Arab World, North America and Australia. Their music is a fusion of several styles; Oriental, Blues, Jazz, Latin, Slow Rock and ballads. Instruments include Keyboards, Guitars, Drum & Bass, and Violin.

The famous arabic musician Ilham Al Madfai

Some call him "Iraq's first crossover music celebrity" while others call him "the Baghdad Beatle". This may be passed off as local hype, but when those people who are giving him such praise are the premier entertainment papers and magazines in Britain, you would be wise to take notice and investigate, which is exactly what we did, and realized that we have an Arab treasure that most of us don't even know about.

Vocal Curse

It all started on an ordinary day in the lives of two high school students: Moose 'n Belal. Moose was obsessed with creating trance beats. When Belal heard Moose's beats, he was simply psyched! Soon, Belal heard of Rahzel, the famous beat boxer, and insisted on introducing Moose to him. It wasn't long before Moose started imitating his beats. Right then and there, a beat boxing talent was born.

Voices From The Sand

'Voices from the Sand' is the title of a musical project and an album that will be released sometime by the end of this year. The brain behind this project is the American Darryl John Kennedy, an "independent cultural ambassador" who, according to his website, uses the arts and culture as a strategy for enhancing the admiration for the United States and generating goodwill around the world.

Vybe

Vybe is one of Cairo's most popular live bands. Their most energetic performances can be witnessed at the Cairo Jazz Club (Cairo) and Camel Bar (Sharm), where you can see them on a regular basis. The six members of Vybe are renowned for their showmanship and for their tight renditions of much loved feel-good tracks. They are probably the only band of Egyptian origin that have funk, soul, R'N'B, Pop, and Latin listed in their repertoire. They always aim to flex their creative muscles and give their audience a taste of something different.

Wust El Balad

If any band in Cairo has managed to prove that underground bands can have a strong presence in a mainstream market, it's Wust El Balad. Since 1999, the band has been performing, touring, composing, and getting even bigger. Their music has been also featured in some Egyptians films by great directors like Khairy Beshara. The band's music, an amazing blend of sounds, combines traditional Arabic music with a modern and western twist, making their music accessible. After a long wait, they recently announced the release of their debut album.

Wyvern

The band was formed in November 2003 as a 4 piece heavy metal band to cover the songs of heavy/thrash metal legends. In a society that doesn't accept new forms of music, especially the rock/metal genre it was really difficult for wyvern to get the exposure needed to present their music.

The band started writing songs-influenced mainly by the old school heavy genre-in 2004. The songs discuss important subjects such as using sexual innuendos and acts to promote what are so called music artists.
