FAQs (frequently asked questions)
How was the first SOS Music Festival that took place in September like?
People said it felt like Woodstock in Egypt; they said it seemed like the start of a musical revolution. They said they wanted it to be a monthly event. Everyone said it was off the hook.
People of different ages attended, because the mood and diversity of music made the festival accessible to music fans of different ages and musical interests. People were running into friends they hadn’t seen in ages. Some were just sitting on grass, enjoying the music and the sun, and some were dancing, but everyone was agreeing on one thing: this festival, with its ambiance and music, was like no other. We got emails thanking us for saving the music!
Many wrote about SOS on their weblogs too and we got Norwegian papers interviewing us. That's how big it got. We couldn't believe that the news reached international press agencies. They were so eager to cover the event and get information about it. The famous "Daily Star", distributed with the Herald Tribune, covered the festival from the day of the press conference to that day of the festival, saying in one of their articles that S.O.S Music Festival was "a success for all concerned". Awesome!
Why SOS Music festival?
The main objective behind the festival is to bring to the people of Cairo an event that is mainly about the music. There is no admittance fee and invitations are to be provided based on answers to a questionnaire, designed to guarantee the access to only the right crowd, who want to be there for the music and the good time, and to prevent any misbehavior; a factor that has plagued the reputation of the party scene in Cairo.
Sports Plus, the organizing company behind the event, teamed up with Vodafone Live Music to promote originality and creativity. Bands are allowed to perform only their own music. In this way, musicians are encouraged to dig deep into their own culture and keep an open mind to experiment with different elements of music.
What does SOS mean?
SOS is an abbreviation for "Save Our Soul". The meaning intended is that we're calling for saving the music and saving ourselves from what the music is becoming about these days. We have endless confidence in the potential of many Egyptian talents. That's why we aim to promote this scene and make it possible; to support Egyptian talents and musicians, and to create an opportunity for music lovers in Egypt to enjoy these talents and get to know them more through this event.
